39 ASEM members meet to discuss employment and social security in Hanoi
Taking place on October 24-25 in Hanoi, the 4th ASEM Ministerial Conference on Labor and Employment will have the theme "Employment and social security - Key to comprehensive growth".

On October 16, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs held a press conference to officially inform about the 4th ASEM Ministerial Conference on Labor and Employment. The conference was attended by more than 150 delegates from 39 ASEM members.
According to Deputy Minister of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thanh Hoa, the conference will be an opportunity for countries to exchange experiences in the fields of labor, employment and social security in the context of countries' efforts to overcome the consequences of the recent global economic and financial crisis and the future labor market situation in ASEM countries. At the same time, it will identify issues of common concern to countries and future cooperation projects.
At the Conference, the Ministers will focus on discussing two main issues: Employment policies including employment for young people and vulnerable groups; Three main current challenges to the Decent Work Agenda: social security, corporate social responsibility and safety and health at work.
The conference will issue a Joint Statement of the Ministers called the Hanoi Declaration “Jobs and Social Security – Key to Inclusive and Sustainable Growth”. The commitments in the Joint Statement are not legally binding but rather focus on the operating principles of ASEM, which are equality, mutual respect and an open dialogue forum.
The conference will include the ASEM High-level Forum on Labor - Employment; ASEM Preparatory Officials' Meeting on Labor - Employment (SOM); and the Forum of Social Partners.
The results of the Conference will be reported to the 9th ASEM Leaders' Summit taking place in the Lao PDR in early November.
