4 folk remedies for first aid for snake bites
Snake bite accidents often occur when going to the forest, working in the fields, or due to flooding caused by storms... This is an unexpected accident that leaves the victim and those around them confused.
While medicine is not available and doctors are not on site, proper first aid will reduce mortality and complications. The following article introduces some folk experiences in first aid and snakebite prevention for readers to refer to and apply when necessary.
When bitten by a snake, it is necessary to identify whether the snake is venomous or harmless by looking at the bite marks. A harmless snake bite has evenly spaced tooth marks, while a venomous snake always has 2 deeper marks, about 5mm apart, which are 2 venomous hooks.
According to folk experience, when bitten by a snake, whether it is a harmless snake or a venomous snake, you should immediately sit down, hold one hand tightly above the bitten area and the other hand swings back, pick a handful of leaves, chew, swallow the juice, and apply the pulp to the snake bite. Modern science believes that fresh leaves contain a lot of tannin and oxidase enzymes that are released during chewing. On the other hand, digestive enzymes in saliva also work with venom.
If possible, choose plants such as Chinese clematis, Chinese clematis, Solanum procumbens, green tea, lime, gardenia fruit, fish mint, snake tongue, water coconut vegetable, pennywort, Vietnamese coriander, wine, kudzu leaves, and cardamom, because these are herbs that have the effect of increasing the survival rate or prolonging the time to resist snake venom.
However, people who often have to go to the forest or work in places prone to snake bites should bring some of the following medicines to use in case of snake bite:
Wine: includes 24g of five-reishi, 24g of fritillary, 24g of male ginseng, 24g of angelica, 24g of chuanxiong, 24g of cinnamon, 24g of white peony, 24g of cardamom, 40g of red polygonum multiflorum, 24g of green alum, 40g of realgar, 400-1500ml of wine. Roughly grind the herbs. Soak in wine for 10 days, shake well 2-3 times a day. Extract the clear wine for use.
Or boil the above herbs twice, squeeze to get the juice, discard the residue. Reduce the liquid to 300ml, filter and add 500 alcohol to get 1.5 liters of alcohol. Cure snake bites. Drink 30 - 60ml of wine per day (about 1 - 2 small cups or 2 - 4 tablespoons). After 10 - 30 minutes, drink another tablespoon. Can drink 150 - 200ml in 1 day. In addition to drinking the wine, use gauze soaked in wine to apply to the snake bite.
Medicine: 200 bed bugs, 20g alum, 20g realgar, 10 dried areca nuts, 200g fresh banana roots, 10 fresh betel leaves, 200g eclipta prostrata, 200g fresh crow's dung vine, 2 liters of white wine. Crush the above medicinal herbs, soak in white wine, stir occasionally. After 7 days, extract the wine, let it settle and use gradually. Adults: 1 teaspoon, children: half; take 1 time every half hour. Can be made into pills, each pill weighs 0.5g, take 2 pills each time, take 6-8 times a day.
Fever reducer: 2 large earthworms (black-brown or dark-green), 1 small banana or plantain tree. Cut the banana tree in half, place 2 worms in the middle and tie them together, burn them until cooked, squeeze the juice and give it to drink to reduce fever. When the patient is bitten by a snake and has a high fever, give them medicine to drink and apply it externally.
Warming medicine: 30g Vietnamese coriander, 30g mung bean, 20g roasted ginger. Crush, squeeze the juice and give to drink to fight cold if the patient feels cold, combine with drinking wine.
In summary, when bitten by a snake, if it is identified as being caused by a venomous snake, it is necessary to promptly provide first aid and find the fastest way to transfer the patient to a medical facility or anti-poison center.
