Sit with your legs extended on the floor, bend each leg in turn and press your knees towards your chest, hold for 10 seconds then switch sides.

According to The Lancet, the habit of being sedentary is a common cause of back pain today. Research by the World Health Organization shows that Vietnam is one of the most sedentary countries with 15.3% of the population being active for less than 30 minutes a day. A sedentary lifestyle seems harmless but leads to countless health problems, especially back pain.

Dr. Paul D'Alfonso, Maple Healthcare Chiropractic Center, explains that sitting in one place for a long time without moving causes poor blood circulation, not providing enough oxygen to the back muscles. Muscles also weaken and joints are not lubricated, causing dull back pain. Office workers have to handle a lot of work, so they do not pay attention to maintaining a proper sitting posture, contributing to the pain. When people have back pain, they tend to move less and so the pain gets worse like "a vicious cycle".
