4 years in prison for hit-and-run driver
(Baonghean) -Yesterday afternoon, December 29, the People's Court of Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) opened a trial for defendant Tiet Manh Ha (born 1979), residing in Dong Phu commune, Chuong My district (Hanoi) on the charge of "Violating regulations on controlling road vehicles".
According to the indictment, at 8:40 p.m. on March 21, 2011, Tiet Manh Ha drove a car with license plate 30M-3113. When he reached km 400+500 in Quynh Thach commune (Quynh Luu district), he crashed into a modified car tied behind a motorbike with license plate 37Z-5910 driven by Nguyen Dinh Thanh (residing in Quynh Thach commune) in the same direction, causing Nguyen Van Quan, who was sitting behind the motorbike, to fall onto the road and be injured. Thanh was thrown into a ditch next to the road, and the motorbike and the modified car were severely damaged.
After the accident, Tiet Manh Ha did not stop to help the injured but drove away. The incident did not cause major consequences, but it caused outrage among many people. The People's Court sentenced Ha to 4 years in prison and ordered him to pay 100 million VND in compensation to the two victims.
