On the morning of August 25, at the Opera House (Hanoi), the "Meet Vietnam" organization held a Vallet Scholarship Award Ceremony for excellent students of high schools in the Northern region. Deputy Minister of Education and Training Dr. Nguyen Vinh Hien attended, spoke and awarded scholarships to students.

Also attending and awarding scholarships were: Professor Odon Vallet - University of Paris, Professor Tran Thanh Van - President of "Meeting Vietnam Association", Professor Le Kim Ngoc - President of "Association to Help Vietnamese Children in France".

At the ceremony, the “Meet Vietnam” organization awarded 450 Vallet scholarships to outstanding students from 58 high schools and 5 SOS schools in the Northern region. Each scholarship is worth 7.5 million VND. This year, the “Meet Vietnam and Vallet” Scholarship Fund awarded 2,188 scholarships to outstanding students from universities, high schools, and SOS schools across the country.

Professor Tran Thanh Van and Professor Odon Vallet awarded Vallet Certificates and Scholarships to students who won regional and international Olympic prizes.

This includes high school students who won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals at regional and international Olympics, and top students in the 2013 university entrance exams.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister Nguyen Vinh Hien congratulated Professors Odon Vallet, Tran Thanh Van, and Le Kim Ngoc on being honored to receive the "For the Cause of Education" Medal from Minister of Education and Training Pham Vu Luan. This is the most prestigious award of the Vietnamese education and training sector for individuals and groups at home and abroad who have made practical and great contributions to the Vietnamese education sector.

Over the years, the Professors in the "Vietnam Meeting" have made enormous contributions to the cause of Education; the Association and its members, who are Professors, always have diverse and practical activities to reduce difficulties for the Education sector and for students...

Deputy Minister Nguyen Vinh Hien expressed his gratitude to the Professors, who, despite their advanced age and busy schedules, still devote time to educational activities for the young generation of Vietnam.

The Deputy Minister affirmed: Professor Tran Thanh Van and Professor Le Kim Ngoc - the first people who had great contributions to bringing the "Hand-kneading dough" teaching method to Vietnam since the year 2000. This is a teaching method of science subjects based on the exploration and discovery of the students themselves. This is an active method, not a passive, one-way transmission. Vietnam has successfully implemented this teaching method and will be popularized and replicated in high schools across the country.

Along with the application of the “Hands-on” teaching method in primary and secondary schools, the Ministry of Education and Training has organized scientific research for students at the high school level. Initial results show that in the past 2 years, for the first time, Vietnam has achieved high prizes at the Science and Technology Competition for high school students held in the United States. Currently, high schools across the country have been very active in implementing this activity.

Deputy Minister Nguyen Vinh Hien believes that with the help in methods, materials and emotions from scientists and leading professors, Vietnam will have more and more excellent students who achieve high achievements in studying and scientific research to serve the country and science in the world.

In fact, many students who received the Odon Vallet honorary scholarship have made outstanding contributions. Many have returned to serve their country. Many are participating in activities in the "Vietnam Meeting Association", accompanying Professors to help Vietnamese children and students.

1.In 1993, Professor Tran Thanh Van organized the first “Meeting Vietnam”, attracting hundreds of famous scientists from around the world, including Professor J. Steinberger, an American Nobel Prize winner. From 1995 to 2012, many Nobel Prize-winning scientists gathered at the “Meeting Vietnam”. This organization has awarded many scholarships to students and young researchers. Moved by the educational encouragement of “Meeting Vietnam”, Professor Odon Vallet volunteered to participate in the scholarship program within the framework of this organization’s activities.

2.The Vallet Honorary Scholarship is the name of the Vallet family, which Professor Odon Vallet is the current representative of. He is a Doctor of Science in Law; and also a Professor of Religious History at Sorbonne University. Inheriting the fortune of his father - Jean Vallet - worth 100 million Euros, Odon Vallet followed his father's wish: to love and help the poor. He deposited all of his inherited assets in the bank to use the annual interest to give scholarships to excellent students in Vietnam and France. In Vietnam, many excellent students who are children of poor farmers in remote areas of the Mekong Delta, the Northern Mountains, the Northwest, and the Central Highlands have been honored to receive the Vallet Scholarship.

3.This year is the 13th year that Vallet scholarships have been awarded to Vietnamese students, with the number increasing each year. From 800 scholarships in 2001 to 2,250 scholarships in 2012. The total value from 2001 to now is over 80 billion VND.
