The National Financial Supervisory Commission cited statistics that in the first 9 months of 2012, about 40,200 enterprises dissolved or temporarily suspended operations, and this number continued to increase to 46,500 enterprises according to statistics from November 2012.

According to this Committee, the business and production situation of enterprises is still in a very difficult period. The number of enterprises dissolved and temporarily suspended in November is continuing to increase compared to the first 9 months of 2012 and shows no signs of stopping. Until the end of 2012, Vietnamese enterprises in the majority of industries are still facing difficulties and challenges in all aspects, especially in the two main stages of "input" and "output" of products. In addition to the known difficulties in the stage of slow product consumption leading to high inventory, enterprises are currently also facing great difficulties due to the very high increase in production costs.

Specifically: Raw material costs in many industries increased dramatically: such as packaging and paper production increased by 50%, textile and garment industry increased by 30-45%, construction industry increased by 25%. On the other hand, in 2012, gasoline prices increased by 2,300 VND/liter, this is an important fuel product, affecting all businesses. In addition, international freight rates have continuously increased since the beginning of the year with an increase of over 50%. High input prices have significantly increased costs and product prices, negatively affecting businesses.

Even according to the assessment of the National Financial Supervision Commission, seasonal factors that can increase prices such as: strong increase in consumer demand at the end of the year due to workers receiving increased bonuses for the New Year will not be much due to the sharp decline in profits of the majority of Vietnamese enterprises in 2012.

According to the Department of Local Industry, Ministry of Industry and Trade, the country currently has more than 265 thousand small and medium enterprises in the industrial and handicraft sectors. In 2012, 15,460 enterprises ceased operations./.
