47 fishermen in distress at sea were rescued

After nearly 7 hours drifting at sea due to engine failure, a Quang Nam fishing boat carrying 47 people was rescued more than 130 km off the coast of Nha Trang.

On the afternoon of March 19, the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center received news that a Quang Nam fishing boat captained by Mr. Pham Be had an engine failure and was adrift in the waters of Nha Trang. Three of the 47 crew members on board were in very poor health, vomiting, and unable to eat or drink.

The Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center of Region IV dispatched SAR 2701 to rescue the crew members in distress. At 11:25 p.m. the same day, SAR 2701 approached the distressed ship 72 nautical miles east of Nha Trang coast.

It is expected that at noon on March 20, SAR 2701 ship and the crew of the ship in distress will arrive at Nha Trang port. This is the largest rescue operation ever carried out by the Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center.
