(Baonghean) -The Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment said that in a recent meeting of the Vietnam Heritage Tree Council, it recognized 5 ancient fig trees of Mr. Le Minh Thuong in Hamlet 2 (Nghi Thinh, Nghi Loc) as "Vietnam Heritage Trees".

According to the review board, these 5 ancient fig trees are 670 years old with many different positions, tree shapes, beautiful foliage and especially all 5 fig trees are associated with the long-standing historical and cultural values of the coastal land of Nghe An. Legend has it that these 5 fig trees were where King Quang Trung tied his elephants during the military festival before going to the North to defeat the Qing army in 1789. During the resistance war against France and especially against the US, the fig trees became shelters and a system of interconnected trenches, where the air defense force of Military Region 4 directly commanded the shooting down of American planes during the US's expanded bombing raids in the North.
