5 easy tips to help mothers treat children with anorexia
Most mothers try every way to get their children to eat more, such as letting them watch cartoons, watch music, or even eat out... However, all of these methods are only temporary solutions.
If you want to treat your child's anorexia, try these 7 simple yet effective methods below!
1. Relax
Children tend to like to have control over their lives, which makes them feel more fulfilled and confident – and their behavior around food is one of the manifestations of this tendency. The more you force, the more they resist and refuse to eat. To solve the problem at the root, let go of yourself first.
Instead of forcing your child to eat a certain food because it is nutritious or expensive and you feel sorry if they don’t eat it; simply give them a few choices at a time, and let them eat it themselves. You should only guide them on how to eat. Put the food in front of them, if they don’t want to eat, don’t force them, and don’t stress about it because children are very sensitive and will pick up on your stress!
Also, it’s great if you can set an example for your child when it comes to eating. Instead of saying, “Try this, it’s delicious!”, eat it with gusto – even without saying anything, your child will be curious enough to want to try it.
2. Praise
All children love to be praised. So if your child tries a new food, praise him/her enthusiastically and cheerfully. “You just tried a carrot, you were so good! I’m so happy!”
This way, you have implicitly sent a message to your baby that when he eats, you will be happy and he will be praised. The next time he wants to be praised, he will try the new foods you give him. With this way, wanting to try new foods will come from the baby himself without you having to force him.
3. Let your child choose
Not only choosing food, you can also make your baby more interested in daily meals when you let him choose his plate, bowl or drinking cup. Your baby will look forward to mealtimes so he can choose for himself whether he will eat from a bowl shaped like a rabbit or a tiger? Red or blue?
However, you need to make an agreement with your child that this can only be done at home. When eating out or going to someone else's house, your child must "use whatever is available" like an adult!
4. Baby does not like to eat meat!
The fibrous and slightly tough meat fibers make many babies not interested in meat dishes, leading to them spitting out the pulp or even refusing to eat meat. Don’t worry too much about this, you can give your baby more sausages – they are easier to swallow and almost all babies like them. You should also increase the amount of butter, cheese, eggs, peanut butter, yogurt and bread for your baby.
If you are still worried about your baby not eating meat, you can make mashed potatoes mixed with minced meat, then coat them in flour and deep fry them. The meat mixed in the potatoes will be easier to eat, and with a beautiful appearance, your baby will surely feel more interested.
5. Baby doesn't like to eat vegetables!
This is also a problem for many mothers. To “entice” your baby to eat vegetables, instead of one type of vegetable, make a colorful and eye-catching vegetable tray and try all the vegetables you can think of. Some babies will like carrots, others will like cute peas or tiny baby corn that they can hold in their hands.
There are things you don't like and you think your baby might not like either; however, eating is a very personal matter and you can never know if your baby will like it or not unless he or she tries it.
