5 days of heavy rain and floods swept away more than 758 billion VND in Nghe An

(Baonghean.vn)- The tropical depression and floods from October 9 to 14 in Nghe An province killed 10 people and swept away more than 758 billion VND.

On the afternoon of October 19, the People's Committee of Nghe An province reported to the Prime Minister and the Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control on the damage caused by the floods from October 9-14.

The 5-day flood has isolated 9 communes, including: Hung Nguyen district (Hung Nhan commune, Hung Loi commune, Hung Lam commune); Tan Ky district (Ky Tan commune, Huong Son commune, Tan An commune, Phu Son commune, Tien Ky commune, Dong Van commune). 4,199 households were flooded (Hung Nguyen: 639, Quynh Luu: 2112, Nghia Dan: 97, Quy Hop 175, Thai Hoa 163, Quy Chau 42, Tan Ky 360, Thanh Chuong 15, Anh Son 149, Tuong Duong 7, Dien Chau 60, Hoang Mai town 2, Vinh city 378) and 6 schools in the area outside Ta Lam dike, Hung Nguyen district, were deeply flooded, forcing students to stay home from school.

The flood also caused 4 houses to collapse completely, 40 houses to be buried by landslides, and nearly 370 other houses to be damaged. 944 households/1,545 business kiosks at Vinh market were flooded, damaging 19 types of goods (rice, sticky rice, peanuts, beans, Lagim, Ma goods, fabric, medicine, candy, groceries, etc.) causing economic losses of about 3,253 billion VND.

The damaged rice area was about 486.89 hectares, corn and vegetables were 9,045.35 hectares, annual crops were damaged 2,452.5 hectares. The salt field area was flooded, completely lost 122.0 hectares, the agricultural land area was eroded: 15.4 hectares, more than 46,000 poultry were killed, 875 buffaloes, cows and pigs were swept away; Small ponds were flooded, damaged 4,854.69 hectares. The flood caused Do Luong dike, part of the Ta Lam dike system, to erode 120 meters; Local dikes (river dikes, inner fields) to erode 685 meters, and 500 meters of seawalls collapsed.

Nghe An province had to evacuate 1,050 households with about 4,149 people out of flooded areas to ensure safety.

Total damage caused by the flood is estimated at: 758.36 billion VND.

During the rainy and flood season, Nghe An province's leaders were regularly present at hotspots and vulnerable areas to direct flood response, visit and encourage families affected by floods, and direct localities to carry out work to overcome consequences, clean up the environment, and restore production after floods.
