5 Daily Habits That Can Harm Your Skin

Washing your face daily and not smoking is not enough to have flawless skin. The following 5 habits can also cause acne and wrinkles on your face.

1. Chew gum

Chewing gum may help eliminate coffee breath or curb your smoking habit, but according to dermatologists, this habit can also cause wrinkles. The reason is that when we chew gum, we repeatedly make a facial movement, which creates unwanted wrinkles around the mouth.

“I believe that chewing gum stimulates muscle activity and potentially breaks down the supporting tissue in the skin, contributing to a loss of skin tone and possibly elasticity,” says Dr. Hema Sundaram, a cosmetic surgeon in the US.

2. Cell phones are not clean

Think about where your cell phone spends most of its time. At the bottom of a dingy pocket? On a messy table? In a dusty jacket pocket? The amount of bacteria found on cell phones is much higher than you might think. And so, pressing your phone to your face while talking can cause breakouts and infections in your jawline and ears.

To avoid this, wipe your phone down regularly with antibacterial wipes. Remember that your mobile phone needs to be treated as carefully as your hands, and whenever it touches a new, unfamiliar surface, you should wipe it down immediately.

3. Dirty pillowcases

If you suddenly have a full face of acne, the first culprit you should suspect is the pillowcase you are using. When we sleep, just like other organs of the body, the skin will regenerate and replenish nutrients. Old skin cells will be removed and new skin cells will be produced.

The accumulation of dead skin cells on your pillowcase will eventually cause acne on your face, so wash your pillowcases in hot water at least once a week.

4.Chulip

In addition to the harmful chemicals that smokers have to deal with on their skin, the act of smoking continuously also creates another undesirable consequence: wrinkles. And the same goes for drinking through a straw. Using a straw may reduce the risk of contact with germs on the mouth of a can or bottle, but the action itself creates lines around the mouth. Therefore, do not pucker your lips too much, whether it is to smoke or to drink, because over time, wrinkles will form around your mouth.

5. Taking a hot bath for too long

After a long day, nothing relaxes us more than a long, hot bath. Unfortunately, experts say that heat can cause serious damage to the pores. Hot water strips the skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and itchy.

In an interview withThe Daily Beast“Our skin contains special proteins and fats that form a protective barrier, retaining moisture to protect us from the harsh outside environment,” said Dr. Megan Moore, a dermatologist at Montefiore Medical Center in New York. “Cold winter air, excessive heat, and frequent hot showers… strip away the skin’s natural protective ability.”
