5 useful car features that 'new drivers' often forget
Some features are equipped by manufacturers on cars to support drivers, increase convenience, safety... but in reality, they are still forgotten by many "new drivers".
The speed of technological development has made cars increasingly smarter and more convenient for users. However, not reading the user manual carefully and not researching much makes many “new drivers” often forget the convenient features equipped on the car.
Cars are becoming more and more intelligent and convenient for users. |
Seat memory feature
In addition to the multi-directional electric adjustment function, some current car models also have a memory function for the driver's seat and front passenger seat. This feature will remember and automatically readjust the seat position that the user has previously set. However, in reality, not everyone who uses a car pays attention to and knows how to take advantage of this feature.
The 3-position driver seat memory feature is equipped on Volkswagen vehicles. |
Normally, current car models often have 3 seat memory positions corresponding to the adjustment buttons arranged on the door sill. To use this function, you need to start the car. Then, adjust the seat cushion positions, seat backrests, steering wheel positions, and rearview mirrors to the desired position. When finished adjusting, press and hold the setup button (some cars are often marked with the letter M), along with button number 1 right below, after 3 - 5 seconds, the position memory function will be activated through a warning sound, accompanied by a flashing signal light. Similar to the above steps, you can set the memory position at button number 2 for another person who also uses the car.
Glass drying
Using a car in winter or in rainy and humid weather often causes the windshield to become foggy due to condensation. To deal with this situation, some new drivers often use ineffective manual methods such as wiping with a towel, lowering the window, adjusting the air conditioner, etc., forgetting about the car's windshield defroster feature.
Windshield defroster is an important feature when driving in rainy and humid conditions, but many "new drivers" do not pay attention to it. |
This feature is now equipped on most car models. To use, users just need to press the activation button, usually integrated on the center console. The indicator light will turn on to let the driver know that the windshield defroster function is working. When turning on this function, the car windows should be closed, combined with the air conditioning system to remove moisture on the car windows.
Hands-free talk feature
Despite warnings, many people still use their phones, text or surf Facebook while driving. This dangerous habit can easily distract the driver and lead to accidents.
Hands-free calling feature allows the driver to talk without having to take their hands off the wheel. |
Therefore, car manufacturers have researched and equipped the hands-free calling feature through the button on the rear steering wheel to receive calls after the phone has been connected to the car's entertainment system via Bluetooth, operating system... This feature helps the driver to talk without taking his hands off the steering wheel. However, in reality, many "new drivers" with the habit of using mobile phones still forget this feature.
Cruise Control
Being increasingly popular in cars, it helps free up the driver's accelerator pedal and helps the car save fuel... but according to a survey by Ford Motor in Vietnam, most car users still forget about the Cruise Control system when driving.
81% of car users do not know that cruise control can help save fuel. |
The reason comes from the fact that the actual traffic situation in Vietnam is still quite complicated and has many limitations, while Cruise Control is really effective when driving on the highway with a limited speed range and stable traffic speed. This makes drivers rarely use Cruise Control if they only drive on inner-city routes. However, some new drivers also forget because they do not know how to use the Cruise Control system.
Manual gear shifting on automatic transmission
Most “new drivers” using automatic cars often do not pay attention to the manual transmission mode equipped on the car. Mr. Hoang Thang, who owns a Honda City, said: “I rarely use the manual transmission mode on the car. When I first bought the car, I saw that there was a gearshift paddle so I tried it out. Because I was not used to it, sometimes when I changed gears, I felt the engine roar and the car jerked a bit. Because I usually only travel in the city and occasionally go on long trips, I usually drive in D mode for comfort and safety.”
Many car models today are equipped with manual transmission mode. |
However, according to car company technical experts, the semi-automatic manual mode not only contributes to the feeling of sporty and exciting driving, but is also suitable for use in many operating conditions to ensure safety and promote the power of the vehicle. Currently, the manual mode on automatic transmission vehicles is often integrated on the gear lever. Some other vehicles often arrange the gear shift paddles on the steering wheel for easy operation by the driver. The gears the driver selects when shifting will be displayed on the dashboard.
