5 competency requirements for general English teachers
The Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) has just announced the basic requirements for the competence of general English teachers. The content of the Basic Requirements for the competence of general English teachers includes 5 areas, each area includes criteria on knowledge and skills that general teachers need to achieve.
5 areas include: Knowledge of subjects and programs; knowledge of English teaching; knowledge of students; professional values and attitudes; connection and experience in English teaching.
Specifically, English teachers must achieve level 4/6 (for primary and secondary school teachers), level 5/6 (for high school teachers) according to the 6-level foreign language proficiency framework for Vietnam.
Understand the basic cultural features of English-speaking countries; be able to compare and contrast with Vietnamese culture and incorporate cultural knowledge into teaching.
Able to use grade-appropriate literary, cultural and academic materials written in English to teach English.
Able to organize the teaching process, use different teaching methods and techniques to teach the 4 skills of listening - speaking - reading - writing to students suitable for their grade level...
Understand and be able to choose assessment methods, develop tests and exams, organize and conduct regular and periodic assessments of students' learning outcomes and English proficiency; know how to use assessment results to adjust content and teaching and learning methods...
The Ministry of Education and Training recommends that the Departments of Education and Training organize for English teachers and managers of general schools to carefully study each criterion and field to self-evaluate and correctly evaluate the capacity of each teacher, thereby having a plan for self-improvement, participating in learning, training to improve capacity and qualifications, meeting the requirements of the Professional Standards for Teachers at all levels.
The basic requirements for the competence of general English teachers are the concretization and consistency with the Professional Standards for Teachers at all levels, which need to be flexibly applied in the process of evaluating teachers according to the Professional Standards for Teachers to encourage and motivate English teachers to strive to improve their professional competence.
Do not use the Basic Competency Requirements for General English Teachers to evaluate and classify competitions; recruit and assign general English teachers annually.
