This is the only gas station still operating to serve the needs of the area.

At least 54 people were killed and dozens more injured in an explosion at a gas station in northeastern Syria on September 20, the UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The explosion took place in the village of Ain Issa in Raqa province. Activists in the province said it was the only functioning gas station in the area and was always packed with customers.

The explosion occurred a day after Syrian rebels took control of a border crossing between Raqa province and Türkiye after fierce clashes with government forces. The gas station was exploded about 40km south of the Tal al-Abyad border checkpoint. The village of Ain Issa is on the main highway between Raqa city, Tal al-Abyad checkpoint and the Turkish city of Sanliurfa./.
