The first rice husk-fired thermal power plant project in Vietnam is expected to start construction at the end of December 2013, on an area of 9 hectares in Long My town (Hau Giang) with a total investment of about 31 million USD.

These biomass power plants will use rice husks as “fuel,” consuming 250 tons of rice husks per day. The plant’s waste will be further used to produce high-grade cement and insulation materials. Each plant can produce 10MW of electricity. The construction period for all 20 plants is expected to be 5 years.

Equipment and machinery for power plants will be manufactured and supplied by CHE Group factories. Currently, CHE Group has cooperated with Torftech Ltd of the UK and ERK Eckrohrkessel GMBH of Germany to design a modern equipment system using rice husks as fuel to produce electricity.

CHE Group and Torftech have also established a joint venture company named Torche Energy Sdn Bhd as the main contractor for the Vietnam project./.
