700 young Chinese workers died suddenly
China Daily reported on July 22 that since 2003, statistics show that 700 young workers in large industrial parks in Dongguan City, Guangdong Province, China, have died in their sleep. According to the Institute of Epidemiology, more than 90% of the 700 young workers who died in their sleep were assembly line workers, and 93% were men. The majority of the deaths were between the ages of 21 and 40.
According to Chinese medical experts, 700 workers have suffered from Sudden Unexplained Death Syndrome (SUNDS). The syndrome mainly affects low-skilled, high-intensity workers. Most of the victims were migrant workers working for construction, chemical, electronics, home appliance, metal, furniture, garment, footwear and toy companies.
