8 months of seafood exports increased by more than 23% to reach 4.67 billion USD
According to statistics from the General Department of Vietnam Customs, Vietnam's seafood exports in the first half of August reached more than 339 million USD, up 15.1%; accumulated from the beginning of the year to August 15, 2014 reached 4.67 billion USD, up 23.2% over the same period last year.

The US is still the largest consumer market for Vietnamese seafood, with cumulative seafood export turnover to this market reaching 1.09 billion USD from the beginning of the year to the first half of August; followed by the EU market with 855.7 million USD; and Japan with 678.8 million USD.
In terms of products, shrimp continues to lead and leaves a large gap compared to other product groups in the industry. As of the first half of August, shrimp exports reached 2.34 billion USD, up 52.8%, of which white-leg shrimp reached 1.39 billion USD, up 100.9% over the same period last year.
Pangasius exports are still lower than the same period last year, accumulated from the beginning of the year to the first half of August, pangasius export turnover reached 1.04 billion USD, down 1.4% compared to the same period last year. Tuna exports in the first half of August increased, however, from the beginning of the year until now, tuna export turnover has decreased quite sharply (-14.8%) to reach 303.5 million USD.
For the Russian market, seafood exports in the first half of August decreased by 41.4%; accumulated from the beginning of the year to August 15, 2014 reached 38.8 million USD, up 0.03% over the same period last year.
However, The Fish site forecasts that seafood exports from Vietnam to Russia will increase sharply in the last months of the year thanks to the lifting of the temporary import ban of 7 Vietnamese seafood companies and the FTA with the Customs Union.
At the same time, seafood exports to Russia are expected to increase as Russia has issued a ban on seafood imports from the United States, EU, Norway, Canada and Australia for one year from August 7, 2014 due to political issues related to Ukraine.
