Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Quyet (born in 1984) in Phu Huu village, Minh Phu commune, Soc Son district (Hanoi) owns a spacious, outstanding 2-storey house with unique architecture, with the largest and most beautiful stone gate in the village. He started his career and has this property thanks to snake farming.

Quyet's parents were farmers and lived in very difficult circumstances. After graduating from high school, he went to school to learn how to drive bulldozers and excavators, hoping to change his life. However, the job of a worker was hard and dangerous, and the income was not worth much.

Mr. Quyet owns the largest king cobra farm in Minh Phu commune.

Unfortunately, at the end of 2006, Quyet had an accident and broke his thigh bone. It took him a whole year of treatment before he could walk again. After the accident, his health deteriorated significantly and he could no longer continue his previous job as a bulldozer and excavator driver. "I was always thinking about what I should do to avoid becoming a burden to my parents at such a young age," Quyet sadly recalled.

Each clutch of king cobra eggs has from nearly a dozen or more.

In 2007, he happened to visit his maternal hometown in Vinh Tuong (Vinh Phuc), which is famous for snake farming. Surprised to see the magnificent properties of many relatives thanks to snake farming, he immediately fell in love with the "hideous" snakes.

Initially, Mr. Quyet only intended to import snakes to raise for meat and sell. But later, he realized that raising them was simple, inexpensive, and had a high income, so he researched and built a breeding model, supplying snake eggs and snake breeds to the market.

Grade 1 king cobras weighing 1.5kg or more, priced at 520,000 VND/kg, are ordered by many customers.

According to Mr. Quyet, raising king cobras does not require much space or care. Each snake cage has an area of 2m x 1m x 1.2m (length x width x height). When building a mesh cage, direct sunlight must be avoided. Each cage has bamboo grids for the snakes to lie on and is semi-natural. It is best to build in an area with not too much humidity and create tree branches for the snakes to crawl on, as if living in the wild.

Mr. Quyet said that to choose parent snakes for breeding, you should choose male snakes with big tails and white bellies. As for female snakes, you should choose those with round bodies, shiny colors, and many black borders on both sides of the belly that are attached together.

“The king cobra rarely gets sick, but you have to make sure the cage is clean because if it is dirty, it can easily get sick. When raising king cobras, you need to pay attention to respiratory diseases and acute urinary tract infections. In the summer, you should let the snakes out in the sun to supplement vitamin D to help strengthen the immune system, strengthen bones and prevent diseases,” Quyet shared.

Mr. Quyet's property comes from snake farming.

Currently, Mr. Quyet's snake farm has over 300 laying snakes, and the baby snakes and snake eggs are constantly ordered by traders. To run a systematic business, Mr. Quyet has also invested in a pickup truck to deliver products to customers. Although market prices fluctuate frequently, Mr. Quyet's snake farm still generates a steady income of 500 million VND or more every year.
