9,199 people died in Japan earthquake

According to the latest figures released by Japanese police, as of 11 p.m. on March 22, the death toll from the recent earthquake and tsunami had reached 9,199 people in 12 provinces, with 13,786 people still missing in 6 provinces.

5,682 schools in 23 provinces were destroyed, 260,000 people had to be evacuated.

On the morning of March 23, several strong earthquakes occurred again in northeastern Japan, the area that was severely devastated by the super earthquake on March 11 that caused a serious nuclear accident at the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.

Nikkei newspaper reported on March 23 that the Japanese government estimated that the total damage caused by the devastating earthquake and tsunami that hit the northeastern region of the country could be between 15-25 trillion yen (about 185-308 billion USD).
