9 years in prison for the transporter of "white death"

(Baonghean.vn) - On the morning of May 25, Nghe An Provincial People's Court opened a first-instance criminal trial on the case of illegal drug transportation and sentenced Pham Hoang Hiep (born in 1987, from Hai An district, Hai Phong city) to 9 years in prison.

According to the indictment, at around 6:00 p.m. on November 25, 2014, in block 9 of Quan Hanh town (Nghi Loc, Nghe An), Nghe An provincial police caught Pham Hoang Hiep red-handed as he got off the passenger bus with license plate 37B-006.29 carrying a blue plastic bag. Upon inspection of the bag, Hiep was found to be carrying two small speakers, each containing tablets with an arrow logo printed on them, suspected to be drugs. The weight of the synthetic drugs was determined to be 256.14 grams.

During the investigation, Pham Hoang Hiep confessed that Hiep had known Uyen (whose address was in Ha Tinh). Five days before his arrest, Uyen called Hiep to go to the Monaco Hotel on Dien Bien Phu Street (Hai Phong City). There, they both used marijuana and turned on the music in the room. That night, Hiep and Uyen slept at the hotel. When they woke up around 9-10am the next morning, Uyen was no longer in the room. Hiep packed up his computer, put the two speakers in his backpack and brought them back to his wife's living room. A few days later, Uyen continued to call Hiep and told him to bring the two speakers to Uyen when he went to Ha Tinh. Around 9-10am on November 25, 2014, Hiep went to the bus station to catch a bus to Nghe An. On the way, Hiep often contacted Uyen via Hiep's Facebook to discuss the location to deliver the speakers.

However, the investigation agency has verified that there is no subject named Uyen with the Facebook address and phone number to contact Hiep as Hiep stated. However, at the investigation agency as well as when the Provincial People's Procuracy interrogated, Hiep admitted that he knew that the speaker contained synthetic drugs. Hiep's actions were enough to constitute the crime of illegal transportation of drugs.
