94 months in prison for 3 subjects embezzling policy money in Cat Van

(Baonghean.vn) -The jury sentenced the three defendants to 94 months in prison and ordered them to repay the lost money.

On June 23 and 24, the Thanh Chuong District People's Court opened the first instance trial of the case of abusing the position of a lawyer to violate the preferential allowance payment regime for people with meritorious services to the revolution. Specifically, the policy beneficiaries who died but still received regular and prolonged allowances and received funeral expenses that were not in accordance with the regime, causing negative consequences to the implementation of the Party and State's policies and at the same time causing losses to the State budget, which Nghe An Newspaper reported in a series of reports 2 years ago.

According to the indictment and interrogation at the trial, from 2002 to July 2012, taking advantage of their assigned positions, the defendants: Tran Huu Vinh (1956), policy officer, Nguyen Viet Chuc (1959), accountant, and Nguyen Van Nam (1966), judicial officer of the People's Committee of Cat Van commune, made incorrect payments of preferential treatment to 60 people with revolutionary contributions in the area, causing a total loss to the State of VND 402,920,000. Pursuant to Clause 2, Article 281 of the Penal Code, the Trial Panel sentenced the three defendants for abusing their positions and powers while performing their duties, causing serious consequences, to 94 months in prison. Of which, Tran Huu Vinh was sentenced to 36 months in prison, Nguyen Van Nam to 24 months in prison, and Nguyen Viet Chuc to 24 months in prison with a suspended sentence.

In addition to the above penalty, the Court also ordered the defendants to repay the lost amount. Currently, the defendants have repaid the amount of 279,205,400 VND.
