Runner-up Mau Thuy almost died after being robbed and falling, causing a traumatic brain injury.

In the latest episode of the TV showArmchair, Miss Universe 2017 runner-up Mau Thuy opened up about the serious traffic accident that nearly took her life in 2014.

The 9x beauty used the phrase “half a step into death” to describe her condition at that time. According to her, it was not a normal accident with a broken leg or arm, but she suffered a traumatic brain injury, with a disability of nearly 50%.

Mau Thuy said that at that time she did not want to share much about the accident because she did not want people to think that she was provoking pity to promote herself. On the contrary, the champion of Vietnam's Next Top Model in 2013 wanted to be recognized through the results of her work. For that reason, Mau Thuy accepted to go on shows right after finishing treatment. However, things were not as easy as she thought.

Although she has recovered, the after-effects of the accident still haunt the runner-up. Her memory is not as clear as before, she cannot keep up with the notes and requests from the designer. To the point that designer Hoang Minh Ha had to exclaim: "You talk to me like you are in the clouds."

For Mau Thuy, that incident was not necessarily a tragedy. “After the accident, my spirit was more optimistic, my personality was also crazier. People commented that I was different from before. That was a lucky thing,” the female model shared.

Mau Thuy's first show after leaving the hospital was for Do Manh Cuong. Her health condition prevented her from completing the three requested outfits, but in return, she felt the love and support from the designer. In 2017, Mau Thuy participated in the Miss Universe pageant, marking a new turning point in Mau Thuy's career after the incident.

Mau Thuy, full name Mau Thi Thanh Thuy, was born in 1992 in Ho Chi Minh City. She started working in showbiz as a model in 2012, but did not leave much of an impression. She became famous after participating in and winning the Vietnam's Next Top Model contest in 2013. In 2017, she won the title of 2nd runner-up in the Miss Universe Vietnam 2017 contest.

The accident that caused Mau Thuy to suffer a traumatic brain injury occurred on the evening of March 10, 2014, when she had just left her home in District 4 (HCMC) to record a TV show by motorbike. Unfortunately, the 9x beauty encountered a robbery, resulting in her falling off her motorbike and being dragged about 5m on the road. Mau Thuy was taken to Hospital 115 for emergency treatment in a coma, and only woke up a day later. The robber was arrested not long after.
