AFF makes important announcement, Vietnam team sets date to compete for Southeast Asia Gold Cup
The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) has officially approved the AFF Competition Committee's proposal to adjust the schedule of the 2024 Mitsubishi Electric Cup ASEAN Football Championship. The Vietnamese team has also determined the competition schedule of the region's number 1 tournament this year.
Accordingly, the group stage matches will start from December 8, 2024 instead of November 23, 2024 as originally scheduled.
The semi-finals will be played on 26, 27, 29 and 30 December 2024, respectively, in a home/away format. The finals will be played on 2 January and 5 January 2025.
The qualifying matches for the tournament will still take place on October 8 and October 15 between Brunei and Timor Leste. The winner will be placed in Group A, which also includes Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Cambodia.

Meanwhile, group B includes Vietnam, Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar and Laos.
The reason for this adjustment is because the original match schedule was from November 23 to December 21, 2024. That also means that the match schedule of the AFC Champions League Elite (Cup C1) and AFC Champions League Two (Cup C2) overlaps with the match schedule of clubs in Southeast Asia.
The above schedule also causes difficulties for the Indonesian team when coach Shin Tae Yong and his team are still competing in the third qualifying round of the 2026 World Cup in Asia.
As part of the preparation plan for the Southeast Asian Championship - Mitsubishi Electric Cup 2024, the Vietnam national team will gather again on August 30, with 26 players summoned during FIFA Days in September 2014.
In this gathering, coach Kim Sang Sik and his team will be tested at the LPBank Cup 2024 international friendly tournament with the participation of two quality guest teams, Russia and Thailand.
LPBank Cup 2024 will take place from September 5 to September 10 at My Dinh National Stadium (Hanoi). Tickets for the matches are also ready to serve a large number of fans through the release on the VINID application.
