Police said the explosion created a crater more than 10 meters deep, destroying surrounding buildings and severely affecting dozens of vehicles parked within a 100-meter radius. According to initial statistics, the death toll could rise even higher because it is not possible to rule out the possibility that many people are trapped under the rubble. Among the victims, many cases were hospitalized due to being hit by flying glass.
Police said truck bombings are rare in Kabul, where police and military regularly conduct security checks and trucks are only allowed to operate between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman said police had not yet determined the target of the attack, which took place near a military post in a residential area southeast of the capital.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but people suspect the Taliban, who carried out a series of attacks on August 6 in Kandahar and Logar provinces, about 100 km south of Kabul, were behind the incident.
