Afghanistan: Taliban kill 10 security personnel
Taliban militants in Afghanistan on October 24 ambushed government security forces in Herat province, western Afghanistan, killing 10 security personnel and wounding eight others.
According to Herat provincial officials, security forces entered Oba district to rescue some hostages kidnapped by the Taliban, but were unexpectedly ambushed, killing 10 people, including five police officers and five soldiers.

Security forces fought back and killed four gunmen, including Mullah Shuaib, a local Taliban leader.
On the same day, the Afghan army and the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) attacked Taliban hideouts in Shahrak district of Ghor province, about 360 km west of the capital Kabul, killing nine insurgents and injuring 25.
According to some locals, there were civilian casualties. However, local authorities have denied this information.
