President Trump's daughter gets attention for 'interrupting' White House meeting

President Trump's daughter appeared to cause a stir when she appeared in the middle of an important White House meeting on the debt ceiling.

On September 7, as leaders of the Republican and Democratic parties met with US President Donald Trump about raising the debt ceiling in the Oval Office, Ivanka Trump interrupted the meeting.

"As the meeting neared its end, Ivanka Trump entered the Oval Office to 'say hello', causing the meeting to veer off topic. The Republican leaders were visibly uncomfortable with Ivanka's presence," NBC quoted a Democratic aide as saying.

Previously, on August 2, the US Treasury Department's Borrowing Advisory Committee said that the department currently only has enough budget to fund the government's operations until the end of September if Congress does not soon decide to raise the debt ceiling.

Ivanka Trump, Mr. Trump's daughter and senior advisor, has received much criticism for replacing her father at a G20 summit meeting with world leaders.

A spokesperson for Ivanka Trump said that in her role as an advisor, she could fill in for President Trump for short periods of time when he had to go out.

"I think she sees herself as part of a family that serves this country. She doesn't want to waste her time, so she's not afraid to contribute to efforts to make the world (better)," Nikki Haley, the US ambassador to the United Nations, told CBS.

Despite her role as an adviser to the President and her government job, Ivanka told Fox News in June: "I try to stay out of politics."
