Life sentence for jealous man

Not seeing his wife bring money after going to work abroad, and suspecting she was "cuckolded", Hai killed her during an argument.

According to the first instance verdict on August 21 of the Hanoi People's Court, at the end of 2012, Ms. Huong went to Malaysia to work abroad and sent about 100 million VND to her husband, Vuong Van Hai, to stay home to raise their children and pay off loans.

In early 2017, Ms. Huong returned home but did not bring as much money back to her family as expected. Due to economic difficulties, along with suspicion that Ms. Huong gave money to her lover, Hai often argued loudly.

On the morning of January 12, Hai and his wife argued. In the family kitchen, Hai locked the door, held a knife to threaten to kill a pig, and after his wife challenged him, he swung the knife and stabbed her.

Hai's father heard his daughter-in-law's cries for help but could not enter to save her because the door was locked from the inside. The family then had to break the door down and by this time Ms. Huong had died.

The court said Hai's actions were hooliganism and should have permanently removed him from society, but because his two children were still young, he was sentenced to life in prison for murder./.
