India: 9 dead and many missing due to flash floods

At least nine construction workers have died and 15 others are missing in a remote area of ​​northeastern India after flash floods hit the area.

Sikkim state government official Karma Zyatso said on September 23 that the workers, who were living in tents in the mountain town of Chungthan, were swept away by the currents of a nearby river on the evening of September 21. The official also said helicopters dropped supplies to nearly 10,000 people living in six villages cut off by floods that damaged roads in the area, located about 550 km west of Gauhati, the capital of Assam state./.
