The Hindu newspaper on August 11 reported that India has asked China to postpone the visit of its President Xi Jinping, because it coincides with the visit to Vietnam of President Pranab Mukherjee from September 15-17.

According to the Indian Foreign Ministry sources, Xi Jinping was scheduled to visit India from September 14-15, but Beijing has been informed through diplomatic channels that the leader will be welcomed from September 17-18, after visiting Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

A senior official from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs revealed that according to previous plans, President Xi Jinping will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 15, after which he will visit Colombo and Islamabad.

However, as President Mukherjee was not in the country, New Delhi requested Xi Jinping to visit India on September 17 and hold high-level talks the following day. India is currently awaiting a response from China.

The new government in India wants to strengthen relations with China, especially in the economic and infrastructure fields./.
