The Hindu newspaper reported on August 11 that India has asked China to postpone the visit of its President Xi Jinping, because it coincides with the visit to Vietnam of President Pranab Mukherjee from September 15-17.

Sources in the Indian Ministry of External Affairs said that Xi Jinping was scheduled to visit India from September 14-15, but Beijing has been informed through diplomatic channels that the leader will be welcomed from September 17-18, after visiting Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

According to previous plans, President Xi Jinping will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 15, after which he will visit Colombo and Islamabad, a senior official from the Indian Ministry of External Affairs revealed.

However, as President Mukherjee is not in the country, New Delhi has asked Xi Jinping to visit India on September 17 and hold high-level talks the following day. India is currently awaiting a response from China.

The new government in India wants to strengthen relations with China, especially in the economic and infrastructure fields./.
