Indian Air Force Commander BS Dhanoa said on March 22 that the country's modern radar systems can now detect signals emitted by China's fifth-generation J-20 fighter jet from several kilometers away, according toSputnik.
Mr. Dhanoa also affirmed that the Indian Air Force is increasingly better equipped and ready to deal with any threat from its northeastern neighbor.
The Indian commander's statement came amid concerns in New Delhi's media that China's latest indigenous fighter jet could be invisible to any enemy air defense radar system.
First publicly appeared in November 2016 at the Zhuhai Air Show, the J-20 was promoted as a state-of-the-art aircraft designed and produced by China, believed to be capable of competing on par with the most modern stealth fighters of the United States.
However, many international military experts still doubt the real capabilities of this aircraft line, because China still faces many difficulties in engine manufacturing technology. J-20 is suspected to be using Saturn AL-31F engines purchased from Russia, because the domestic WS-15 engine has not been completed yet.
