'Maritime security is increasingly important and urgent'
Issues of marine development and management, traditional and non-traditional maritime security, and dispute settlement were discussed from June 9-10.
The International Scientific Conference on Maritime Development and Security with the theme “International Cooperation and Sharing of Asia-Europe Experiences” opened this morning (June 9) in Ha Long City, Quang Ninh.

Overview of the workshop |
The workshop was jointly organized by the Delegation of the European Union to Vietnam and the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, attracting the participation of many scholars, legal and security experts from the European Union, Asian countries Japan, Korea, China and ASEAN. On the Vietnamese side, there were 150 delegates from central ministries, branches, diplomatic agencies and research institutes.
The conference aims to provide a forum for experts, scholars and policymakers from Asia and Europe to exchange views, share experiences and consult on best practices in promoting international security cooperation. At the same time, find effective policies to deal with maritime security challenges, promote sustainable development of marine resources and strengthen the global ocean governance system.

Speaking at the opening session, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam Dang Dinh Quy affirmed that maritime security is increasingly important and urgent. However, the risks from conflicts and hot spots in the maritime space are increasingly greater. Therefore, it reduces and threatens the efforts of cooperation and trust between nations in the issue of protecting maritime security and maritime space. Therefore, more cooperative efforts and discussions are needed to create ideas and recommendations for governments and all communities in the region as well as the world to understand the risks and cooperate together.
Issues of marine development and management, traditional and non-traditional maritime security, coordination mechanisms between countries, legal principles and dispute settlement will be discussed from June 9-10./.
