After years of research, Australian scientists have discovered a compound in broccoli that can activate anti-inflammatory genes to open up the airways.
Dr Tom Karagiannis says the active ingredient, called “L-sulforaphane,” can trick cells into turning on anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant genes. Eating two servings of broccoli a day could help asthmatics breathe easier.
Experts recommend that asthma patients should eat broccoli in the above dosage for a long time, then gradually reduce it, and should not cook broccoli too much to get the best benefits.
This measure should be taken in conjunction with your doctor's treatment instructions.
Scientists are continuing research to determine the necessary dosage of broccoli consumption to prevent asthma from the early stages./.
