(Baonghean.vn) -Born in the drug hotbed of Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district, Lo Thi Minh and Vi Thi May could not overcome the temptations of money and plunged into drug trafficking.

On April 22, Nghe An Provincial Court tried the case of illegal drug trafficking against two defendants Lo Thi Minh (53 years old) and Vi Thi May (30 years old), both residing in Dua village, Luong Minh commune, Tuong Duong district.

As the third child in a family of four siblings, Lo Thi Minh was famous since childhood as a woman with a passion for making money and a gift for speaking. In the drug "hot spot" of Luong Minh commune, witnessing many villagers getting rich from drugs, Lo Thi Minh also became greedy, ready to give up farming to trade drugs when requested by customers. In early January 2013, when her husband fell ill, Minh went to the forest to pick leaves to make medicine, but her main purpose was to find customers to sell drugs. In the Pu Lom forest, Lo Thi Minh met a young man named Binh and was ordered by this man to buy 1 heroin tree and 1 pink phien package. In addition to the difference between the buying and selling prices, this man promised to give Minh an additional 2-3 million VND if she got the right goods.

Having found a lucrative business opportunity, Lo Thi Minh returned home and discussed with Vi Thi May how to buy and deliver the goods to customers. May's husband, Kha Van Lay (born in 1981), was serving a prison sentence for drug trafficking, and she was raising two children at home alone. When Minh invited her, May was dazzled by the money and was willing to leave her children behind, and together they went into the forest to find and buy white goods to deliver to customers.

On January 3, 2013, Minh and May went to Pu Lom mountain together, met 3 Mong men and bought 1 heroin stick for 28,000,000 VND and 1 pink phien package for 14,000,000 VND on credit. With the goods in hand, the two contacted a man named Binh, and arranged a delivery location in the forest area of Coi village, Luong Minh commune. While delivering the goods, Minh and May were caught red-handed by the police. Taking advantage of the chaos, the man named Binh escaped into the forest.

Nghe An Police Investigation Agency determined that the heroin cake seized by Minh and May weighed 39.095 grams, and the pink drug package weighed 19.325 grams.

A large crowd watched the trial.

At the trial on the morning of April 22, Minh and May confessed their crimes. Both defendants said they were ignorant, greedy, and wanted to change their lives, so they committed the crime. At the end of the trial, the jury sentenced Lo Thi Minh to 15 years in prison and Vi Thi May to 13 years in prison.
