Death sentence for the man who 'transported' 5 heroin cakes for hire
Having been sentenced to 14 years in prison for drug possession and use, after being released from prison, Thien was hired to transport 5 cakes of heroin. He was recently sentenced to death by the court.
The People's Court of Ninh Binh province has just opened a trial for the case of illegal drug transportation against defendant Luong Van Thien (born 1978), residing in Nam Can commune, Ky Son district, Nghe An province.
According to the indictment, Luong Van Thien (also known as Ngong), is a drug addict and was sentenced to 14 years in prison for drug possession and use.
On June 14, 2017, Thien agreed to transport 5 heroin cakes (weighing 1,800 grams) for an unknown person from Nam Can area (Ky Son, Nghe An) to Ninh Binh for 20 million VND.

A day later, Thien drove a car with license plate 14B - 025.61 carrying 5 heroin cakes to deliver the goods. When arriving at Tam Diep city, the subject was discovered and arrested by the Drug Crime Investigation Department of Ninh Binh Provincial Police.
At the trial, Thien repeatedly tried to justify himself, sometimes blaming law enforcement agencies to avoid the crime of intentional crime... to avoid severe punishment by law.
When the panel of judges allowed him to have his final say, defendant Thien requested to be released on bail for 3 days to go home to visit his mother because his mother is currently seriously ill and he is afraid that when she dies, he will not be home to attend the funeral.
The jury and everyone present in the court were all "shocked" by this dangerous subject's scheming request and excuse to escape.
Luong Van Thien was sentenced to the highest penalty of death under Clause 4, Article 194 of the Penal Code.
