For children at risk of gaining weight, parents should pay attention to limit their children's intake of cakes, jams, candies, and should replace them with less sweet ripe fruits such as grapefruit, oranges, watermelon... At the same time, encourage children to eat more boiled green vegetables such as kohlrabi, cabbage, and chayote.

Doctor Le Thi Hai, Director of the Nutrition Examination and Consulting Center, Institute of Nutrition, said that Tet is an occasion for people to have fun and meet, but it is also accompanied by endless parties. They can make you feel tired, gain weight, and even get sick...

Below, Dr. Hai gives some advice on appropriate diets for each group:

1. Children

Daily diet for children is extremely important, affecting the mental and physical development of children. Especially during Tet holidays, this is even more important because children's eating habits will be disrupted a lot.

Some children who are picky eaters or lazy to eat due to irregular eating habits will lose weight, become malnourished after Tet, and even suffer from digestive disorders due to overeating or eating spoiled food that has been left for a long time. On the contrary, some children gain too much weight, leading to overweight and obesity. These children often eat too much candy, sweets and foods rich in fat and protein. Therefore, after Tet, the number of children who come to the doctor due to picky eating or being overweight increases.

To avoid the above situation, parents need to pay attention:

- For children who are still eating rice porridge, try to stick to the same meal schedule as usual. Do not let children eat candy, jam, or drink soft drinks before meals. This will make children feel full and unable to eat the main meals, leading to anorexia and malnutrition.

- Children at risk of being overweight or obese need to pay special attention. Even during Tet, you should limit the amount of candy and sweets you bring home. At the same time, you should give your children lots of boiled vegetables because Tet has too much food rich in fat and protein.

2. Adults

To avoid gaining weight during this time, women need to follow the slogan "better to waste than to be obese". This means that you should not overeat when you are full. But also to avoid wasting, you should only buy food in moderation, when cooking, you should cook few dishes, in moderate quantities, and choose low-fat dishes.

In addition, you should not eat foods rich in energy such as: pork head sausage, fatty sausage, and meat jelly, but instead use pork sausage or cinnamon sausage. Increase fish dishes: steamed fish, fish stewed with pickled vegetables, replace fried shrimp with boiled or steamed shrimp.

Limit eating banh chung, especially fried banh chung. If you eat banh chung, you should eat boiled or steamed banh chung until hot. When eating banh chung, you should not eat rice or other starchy foods. You should not eat fried rice, limit fried spring rolls and instead eat spring rolls or pho rolls that do not use oil. Eat lots of boiled green vegetables such as: kohlrabi, cabbage, zucchini, chayote...

3. People with chronic diseases

People with nutritional diseases such as diabetes, high cholesterol, gout... need to pay more attention to their diet during Tet. They must still adhere to a diet, limit alcohol, do not smoke, do not eat sweets, limit fatty foods, do not drink coffee or strong tea.

In addition, you should drink fresh fruit juice: unsweetened orange juice, grapefruit juice, boiled vegetable juice. People who are overweight, obese, diabetic, or have high blood pressure should drink vegetable juice such as cucumber, jicama, carrot, tomato... The simplest is to drink warm boiled water or green tea.
