Mr. Son: Proactively take measures to combat drought

(Baongehan.vn) - On the morning of March 11, a working delegation of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development led by Mr. Nguyen Sy Hung - Deputy Director of the Department inspected the drought situation in Anh Son district.

Currently, Anh Son Irrigation Enterprise is managing 11 irrigation works in the area, including 5 large dams: Khe Nay Lake (Duc Son Commune), Khe Chung Lake (Tao Son Commune), Cao Cang Lake (Phuc Son), Dong Quan Lake (Lang Son), Ruong Xoi Lake (Vinh Son Commune) and 6 electric pumping stations: Tuong Son Pumping Station, Linh Son 1, Linh Son 2, Khe Sung (Hoa Son Commune), Dong Truong (Hoi Son Commune) and Thach Son Pumping Station serving irrigation for more than 6,300 hectares of agricultural land.

Currently, 3/5 lakes in Anh Son district do not have enough water to serve spring crop production, namely Khe Nay lake only reaches 29% of its design capacity, Ruong Xoi lake only reaches 28% and Khe Chung lake reaches 31% of its capacity, only enough to irrigate for the panicle initiation and flowering period.

Faced with that situation, Anh Son district proactively developed appropriate drought-fighting plans and solutions, mobilizing maximum human resources and means for pumping and irrigation to serve production. Accordingly, Anh Son Irrigation Enterprise repaired 2 drought-fighting pumping stations in Vinh Son and Lang Son; repaired 6 sets of field oil pumps ready to pump water from the reservoir. Focused on directing localities to organize dredging of canals, repairing irrigation works, and building banks to retain water in fields and low-lying areas to serve drought-fighting.

Through the field inspection, the working group suggested that Anh Son district should further strengthen propaganda work to farmers on drought prevention; direct and guide localities to effectively implement drought prevention and control measures; repair the canal system and pumping stations in the area to ensure that the spring crop is not lost due to heat and drought.
