Mr. Son builds the collective brand of Gay tea

(Baonghean.vn) - To help Gay tea stand firm in the market, Anh Son district is developing a plan and taking steps to build a collective brand for Gay tea.

Cao Son is a commune with a large area of ​​Gay tea in Anh Son district with nearly 550 hectares, of which more than 90% of households grow. Currently, Gay tea is a key crop in hunger eradication and poverty reduction, helping Cao Son people have a stable income.

With many years of experience in planting and caring for Gay tea trees, in recent years, Cao Son tea growers have applied clean production processes.

Ms. Ha Thi Loc's family in village 8, Cao Son commune grows 5 sao of tea. She said that right from the stage of clearing the ground cover, weeding, and taking care of the tea, she does not use herbicides or chemical fertilizers. Fertilizers are mainly organic fertilizers and microorganisms composted from agricultural products. Thanks to that, the tea area grows well, providing daily income; on average, 40 bundles are harvested each day, with the current price of 5,000 - 6,000 VND/bundle, each month she has a source of income of 5 - 6 million VND.

Mr. Nguyen Van Chau in village 6, Cao Son commune shared: Having gone through many ups and downs with Gay tea, Cao Son people have realized that, if they want to produce tea as a commodity, the products sold on the market must be highly competitive. Therefore, along with proactively converting and renovating tea hills, we have implemented safe tea production according to VietGAP standards.

Currently, Mr. Chau's family has more than 1 hectare of green tea, which is the main source of income. He believes that making clean tea is the best way to build a brand, but the current problem is that Gay Cao Son tea does not have a trademark, does not have a brand and does not produce safe tea products, so the value of the tea tree is not high, not worthy of the effort put in.

Currently, the whole commune has nearly 550 hectares, with 90% of households planting, large households planting over 1 hectare, small households planting from 2 to 3 sao of tea. Every day, there are 3 to 5 trucks of traders coming to buy tea at the garden and transporting it to Dien Chau district, Vinh city, Ha Tinh and all the way to Hanoi.

On average, every day, Cao Son people sell 8,000 - 8,500 bundles of tea to the market; with the price of tea at 5,000 VND/bundle, it is calculated that every year Cao Son commune earns billions of dong from Gay tea trees.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Son - Vice Chairman of Cao Son Commune People's Committee, during the production process, the commune has encouraged people to focus on improving the quality of tea products, committed to applying the correct safe production process, not using pesticides to ensure safe tea products for consumers.

Along with some raw materials in the area, in recent years, Gay tea has been identified by Anh Son district as a key crop, contributing to hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and enrichment for farmers. This product has been identified by the district as one of the typical agricultural products of the district.

Currently, Anh Son is building a plan and process to build a brand and collective trademark for Gay tea in 2018. If a collective trademark is built for Gay tea, it will increase the economic value of tea, bring products to consumers in and outside the province, bring high profits to producers to create a sustainable direction for the local economy.
