The decision was made at the meeting of the Board of Directors of Long An Football Joint Stock Company on the afternoon of February 22.

Mr. Phan Van Giau - born in 1975 - was Mr. Sang's assistant. During his playing days, he played as a central defender and spent 16 years with Dong Tam Long An (now Long An Club), winning the First Division championship in 2002 and V-League in 2005 and 2006. Mr. Giau will lead his hometown team until the club finds a new leader.

There is information that Long An is contacting former coach Henrique Calisto. However, new Chairman Nguyen Mon refused to confirm. Sharing with VnExpress, the Portuguese strategist said that he has not received any official offer and if there is, many factors such as salary, working conditions, etc. will have to be considered.

Mr. Giau has a famous younger brother, Phan Van Tai Em, former captain of Dong Tam Long An and the Vietnam national team. Tai Em is currently still on the club's payroll.

Mr. Giau's first challenge in his new position is the match against HAGL in round seven this weekend. Long An is currently at the bottom of the table with only four points.

This "mid-game change of general" was an unfortunate move for Long An Club, as Mr. Sang was banned from football activities for three years by the Vietnam Football Federation. He was determined to have incited the players to react and oppose the penalty decision of referee Nguyen Trong Thu in the match against Ho Chi Minh City in round 6 of V-League 2017 last weekend.

Besides Mr. Sang, former Chairman Vo Thanh Nhiem also received a similar punishment. Two players Minh Nhut and Huynh Quang Thanh were suspended for two years. Mr. Huynh Ngoc San - CEO - submitted a resignation letter and was approved by the company's leadership.
