Mr. Nguyen Trong Ho - Director of Department of High Performance Sports 2, General Department of Sports and Physical Training, said: "We still regularly receive reports from Coach Dang Anh Tuan and feel quite assured because during this time, Anh Vien's training indicators in the US are relatively good.
Although the sports industry still remotely monitors Vien's training and activities, they have great confidence in the training program and the training process for each stage that the coach sets for her. We do not put much pressure on her performance at the upcoming world championship in Hungary from July 21 to 28, but coach Dang Anh Tuan has high expectations for his student's progress and sets his own targets to strive for. This year, the world championship and the SEA Games are less than a month apart.
We hope that Coach Tuan will have careful and careful calculations so that Vien will not be out of breath when returning to the regional arena. Because after a major tournament, without careful preparation, athletes often lose their form. At the 28th SEA Games, Vien shone brightly with 8 gold medals, breaking 8 SEA Games records, so at the 29th SEA Games, Vien needs to achieve better results. The target is to achieve 9-10 gold medals."
Understanding the concerns of sports officials as well as fans, Coach Dang Anh Tuan confidently said: “Compared to last year, this year the SEA Games takes place right after the world championship and because we know this schedule in advance, we have a long-term preparation plan so that both tournaments can achieve the set targets without Vien falling into an overloaded state. A month ago, Vien's achievements were the best in Asia. At the end of the general endurance training period, such indexes are satisfactory.”
Mr. Tuan said that Vien is in the specialization stage, switching to speed endurance and strength training: “The exercises are very difficult but Vien always tries to do well. At the end of each training session, she sticks out her tongue because she is so tired but does not complain a word. My teacher and I are determined to improve our results at the world championship with a top position in the women's 400m medley, and at the 29th SEA Games, there is no reason not to set a higher target than the previous SEA Games when Vien's level is increasingly approaching the level of the top athletes in the continent and the world." Both teachers Tuan and Vien emphasized that this year they will strive to win about 10 gold medals at the 29th SEA Games.
