Arsenal 0-0 MU: Van Persie's unfortunate return

The Dutch striker missed no less than two good chances in last night's match. If luck had smiled on Van Persie, perhaps MU would have left Emirates with 3 full points.

Arsenal and MU entered this match with great determination in search of victory. The Gunners needed 3 points to compete for the top position, while coach David Moyes's team needed a victory to dispel the gloomy atmosphere that surrounded their dressing room due to their poor performance since the beginning of the tournament.

With that determination, both Arsene Wenger and David Moyes sent their best players out to play from the start. It was MU who had the first dangerous situation, in the 2nd minute, starting from Arteta's mistake, the ball went to Van Persie and the former Arsenal player had a face-to-face situation with Szczesny but unfortunately could not beat the Polish goalkeeper.

After that near-miss, Arsenal players regained their form and pressed their opponents back into their own half. However, facing a well-organized MU defense, the Gunners could not approach goalkeeper De Gea's goal. On the contrary, Arsenal almost paid the price when Van Persie broke the offside trap in the 18th minute, but unfortunately the shot did not really have a sense of the ball and went wide of the goal post.

Entering the second half, the two teams continued to play tit for tat with opportunities created towards the goals of both goalkeepers Szczesny and De Gea. However, all of those situations were still not difficult enough to penetrate the tightly organized and disciplined defense. It was not until midway through the second half that a real good opportunity was created after Giroud's header, the ball passed De Gea's control and flew into the goal but fortunately Valencia promptly headed the ball away right on the goal line.

Not to be outdone by the home team, MU players also had some finishing chances from Mata, but unfortunately the ball went wide of the goal or was blocked by Szczesny. In the 79th minute, MU should have scored if Van Persie's close-range header had not been successfully blocked by Szczesny, who pushed the ball off the crossbar and out.

In the final minutes of the match, Arsenal players pushed forward to find a goal but failed, most notably Cazorla's technical shot in the first minute of extra time, unfortunately unable to overcome the solidity of his compatriot De Gea.

The match ended in a draw. With 1 point, Arsenal missed the chance to reclaim the top spot from Chelsea when they only had 56 points and were 1 point behind The Blues. Meanwhile, MU continued to stand still in 7th place on the rankings with 42 points.
