Australian authorities on July 23 condemned the incident in which a group of Tibetan protesters stormed the Chinese Consulate General in Sydney the day before.

In a press release, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to protecting diplomatic missions in the country. The release stated: “The Australian Government has a responsibility to protect the safety and dignity of foreign diplomatic and consular missions and condemns all forms of violent protests.”

Previously on July 22, a group of Tibetan extremists, while protesting in front of the Chinese Consulate General in Sydney, took advantage of the open gate when a truck passed by, rushed into the front yard of the consulate, one person climbed the flagpole and pulled down the Chinese flag.

Australian police quickly intervened, arresting about 10 people, including 8 people charged with trespassing.

China has asked Australian authorities to prosecute these people according to the laws of the host country./.
