"NATO's deployment of US combat forces and tank brigades in Eastern Europe is aimed at achieving this goal. The West hopes that Russia will take appropriate actions," Mr. Macierewicz added.
In addition, Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydlo affirmed that the decision of the NATO summit was made in response to Russia's policies in the Eastern region.
Polish Foreign Minister Witold Waszczykowski said at a press conference on July 11 that NATO's military actions were only aimed at self-defense, in response to Russia's actions in Ukraine and Georgia, as well as the Black Sea and Baltic regions.
Mr Waszczykowski added that NATO had used the mildest possible military response, with a defensive aim rather than a provocative action as Russia had alleged.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that NATO was trying to prevent an “unreal” threat from the East. Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova criticized the decisions of the NATO summit as inconsistent with reality and said that NATO's actions were moving away from the goal of protecting the safety of member countries.
"NATO is trying to discredit Russia in order to justify its military build-up and cover up its provocative actions in Eastern Europe. NATO wants to maintain its position on the world stage through escalating tensions in the regions," Ms. Zakharova added.
