President Putin announced the launch of the peaceful nuclear sector
President Vladimir Putin said Russia will launch the world's first nuclear power system by 2030.
According to RIA Novosti, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia will launch the world's first nuclear energy system with a closed fuel cycle by 2030.
"I think Russia can be proud, because in 2030 in Russia, specifically in the Tomsk region, there are plans to launch the world's first nuclear energy system with a closed fuel cycle," Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the "World Nuclear Week" international forum in Moscow on September 25.
The international forum "World Atomic Week", dedicated to the nuclear and related industries and held from September 25 to 28, is aimed at the 80th anniversary of the Russian nuclear industry.
Within the framework of the strategic industrial project "Breakthrough", Rosatom is building a test and demonstration power complex of Generation IV at the site "Liberia Chemical Complex" in Seversk, Tomsk Region, based on the innovative fast neutron reactor and lead heat carrier BREST-OD-300 with a capacity of 300 MW.ODEC. This will be a closed nuclear fuel cycle plant, including a module for processing irradiated nuclear fuel of the BREST reactor and a module for producing such nuclear fuel.
The "Breakthrough" project aims to create a new technological platform for the nuclear industry, with a closed nuclear fuel cycle (CFF) based on fast neutron reactors.
The implementation of the project will ensure that Russian technologies remain at the forefront of the world nuclear energy industry. And for the first time in the world, this Russian project will demonstrate the sustainable operation of a full range of facilities supplying nuclear power plants, demonstrating the new qualities of the future nuclear generation - unprecedented safety, environmental friendliness, resource efficiency and competitiveness. The station option of the fuel cycle organization within the framework will allow to implement the so-called short fuel cycle technologies in the shortest possible time at one site.
