According to a VNA reporter in Seoul, in his opening speech at the meeting, South Korean Deputy Foreign Minister Lee Kyung-soo emphasized that trilateral cooperation is of great importance not only to the three countries, but also to peace and stability in the region.
He expressed concern that recent obstacles to trilateral cooperation have caused certain irregularities in the cooperation process, affecting the operation and future of this mechanism."
He hopes the talks can help "restore trilateral cooperation, which has been somewhat stagnant" and become a "turning point" for the future of this cooperation mechanism.
Meanwhile, Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Shinsuke Sugiyama noted that "the cooperation of the three countries seems to be an important milestone paving the way for a prosperous future not only for the region but also for the entire international community."
Chinese counterpart Liu Zhenmin pointed out that the three countries have cooperated in many areas, including economy, trade and cultural exchanges in the past few years, but at the same time, the trilateral cooperation has also encountered difficulties and setbacks that have affected the overall atmosphere of trilateral cooperation.
The three diplomats agreed that the talks could help revive momentum for practical cooperation among the three Northeast Asian countries./.
