Three methods of admission to high school

From June 2, 2014, the admission process for junior high schools and high schools will be subject to new regulations. The Ministry of Education and Training stipulates that the method of admission to junior high schools is through examination.

There are three methods of admission to high schools: selection (based on the results of training and studying in 4 years of secondary school; if a student is held back in a grade, the results of the repeated year of that grade will be used); entrance exam; combination of entrance exam and selection. Depending on actual conditions, localities can proactively decide on appropriate admission methods.

The new regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training also stipulate 4 groups of students who are admitted directly to high schools, including: students from ethnic boarding schools; students from very small ethnic groups; students with disabilities; students who have won national or higher prizes in culture; arts; physical education and sports; and science and technology competitions for high school students.

In the 2014-2015 school year, Hanoi chose the high school admission method of combining entrance exams with selection. It is expected that about 80,000 middle school students will participate in the 10th grade admission.
