Three Chinese Coast Guard Ships Enter Japanese Territorial Waters
Kyodo News on September 7 quoted a source from the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) as saying that three Chinese Coast Guard vessels, including Coast Guard 2307, 2308 and 2506, had entered Japanese territorial waters in the area around the Senkaku Islands, which are controlled by Tokyo but also claimed by Beijing and called Diaoyu.

The incident occurred at around 10 a.m. the same day when a JCG patrol ship warned the ships to leave Japanese waters.
This is the 24th such intrusion by China this year. The most recent time, Chinese ships entered waters near the uninhabited islands on August 26.
China has been stepping up its claim to the Senkaku/Diaoyu Islands after the Japanese government purchased most of the islands from a private Japanese owner and placed the area under state control in 2012.
