Three young men falsely accused of robbery apologized

The family of the wrongly prosecuted victim requested to announce the disciplinary action against those who caused the wrongful conviction.

On June 13, the People's Procuracy of Cai Nuoc district (Ca Mau) organized a public apology for Nguyen Hoang Khang, Nguyen Vu Ca and Le Minh Nhut (all from Ca Mau), who were wrongly prosecuted for the crime ofRobbery.

Ms. Tu Thanh Thuy - Deputy of Cai Nuoc District People's Procuracy acknowledged that the wrongful conviction has caused material and spiritual losses to the person and his family, and nothing can compensate.

"On behalf of the board of directors, we would like to apologize to you and your family. The Institute will seriously handle the staff and rectify the work according to regulations to avoid causing injustice and letting criminals escape," Ms. Thuy said, adding that she has not yet reached an agreement on material compensation because she is waiting for the competent authority to provide funding.

Representatives of the families of the wrongly accused youths asked Ms. Thuy to announce the disciplinary action against those who directly caused the wrongful convictions. However, Ms. Thuy said that the People's Procuracy had handled the case but "could not announce it yet". The victims' families later refused to accept the apology.

According to the case file, late three years ago, Mr. Lam Chi Nhan went to the Luong The Tran Commune Police Station (Cai Nuoc) to report that he was parking near Luong The Tran Bridge to answer the phone when he was knocked down by three young men on two motorbikes. The group beat him, stabbed him in the shoulder with scissors androbbed of a phone worth about 3.7 million dong.

Afterward,When he passed by a restaurant 3 km from the robbery site, he saw a young man "in a red t-shirt" drinking with two other people. Mr. Nhan said this was the group that robbed him.The three young men were taken to the police station for questioning, but did not admit their guilt. All three were then prosecuted and temporarily detained.

During the investigation, these three young men admitted to their crimes. However, during the trial, they changed their statements, denied their crimes and claimed they were forced to confess.

Considering that the documents collected in the case file are not sufficient grounds to prosecute Nhut, Khang and Ca for crimes.RobberyIn August 2016, Cai Nuoc District People's Procuracy decided to suspend the case.
