(Baonghean.vn) - During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh always paid attention to the young generation, among which students were the "young intellectual workers" that he paid much attention to. He often visited, encouraged them, and encouraged them to study diligently and constantly cultivate revolutionary ethics, to become virtuous and talented people, contributing to the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

Uncle Ho considered students to be the leading factor, the factor that decides the future destiny of the country. In his letter to students nationwide on the first opening day of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, Uncle Ho affirmed: "...Whether Vietnam becomes glorious or not, whether the Vietnamese people can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world powers or not depends largely on your studies...", and on the occasion of the first Independence Day, in his letter to the youth and children nationwide, Uncle Ho wrote: "A year begins in spring, a life begins in youth. Youth is the spring of society...".

During the period 1925-1945, enlightened by comrade Nguyen Ai Quoc, patriotic student organizations were born one after another, such as the Student Union, Ngo Quyen Team, and the General Student Association, which led the student struggle movement under the banner of the Party and beloved Uncle Ho.

On January 28, 1941, leader Nguyen Ai Quoc secretly returned to the country to join the Party Central Committee in directly leading the Vietnamese Revolutionary movement. Under the direct guidance of the Party, the movement to form the General Student Association operated openly to unite patriotic student forces. Along with the development of the student movement, the student movement in high schools in the North and the South also grew stronger and stronger under the influence of the common struggle guided by the Viet Minh Front and national salvation organizations.

The August 1945 general uprising of our people under the leadership of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh achieved complete victory. It was a great achievement of a long, arduous and sacrificial struggle, in which the youth, pupils and students made many worthy contributions, with countless heroic and resilient examples engraved in the history of the nation.

After the August Revolution, students enthusiastically studied, trained and participated in the resistance war against the French colonialists, taking the lead in carrying out three major tasks: Eradicating illiteracy, eradicating hunger, and eradicating foreign invaders as set forth by Uncle Ho and the Government.

Uncle Ho also spoke directly to students studying in the country, abroad and students from other countries attending international student conferences in Vietnam many times. We have learned about Uncle Ho's teachings and his immense and close love for the youth and students through his speeches at university opening ceremonies; student congresses; international student conferences...

About studying,Uncle Ho asked students: “You must clearly understand how to study? What to study? What to study for?”. At the 2nd Vietnam Student Congress, on May 7, 1958, Uncle Ho emphasized: “For intellectual youth like you here, we need to ask two questions: What to study for? Who to study to serve? These are two questions that need to be answered decisively in order to have a direction.”

Uncle Ho pointed out: “Under the colonial and feudal regimes, the purpose of going to school was to get a degree to become a scholar or a judge, to receive a high salary, to eat well, to dress well. That’s all. We didn’t know or understand the fate of the nation or how the world situation changed. The purpose of education was to educate slaves to serve them. Today, we have gained independence and freedom, and the youth are the true future masters of the country. If we want to be worthy of the role of master, we must study. Studying now is different from studying under the colonial and feudal regimes.”

“Study to improve political, cultural, scientific, technical and military qualifications” and “Study to serve whom? To serve the Fatherland, to serve the people, to make the people rich and the country strong, that is, to fulfill the duty of the master of the country”. Uncle Ho reminded Vietnamese students that: “No matter what profession you do, you must study” and the purpose of studying is to “improve your ability to develop the economy, fight to victory, and make people’s lives more prosperous and joyful”. That means that even for a part of the youth who do not go to university or college, studying is always extremely important.

Learn from vocational classes, learn from life experiences, from predecessors, self-study... to improve a positive lifestyle, cultivate professional skills to apply knowledge to production and economic work to enrich yourself as well as society. Uncle Ho also always reminds students that, in order for learning to be successful and useful, learning must go hand in hand with practice, theory must go hand in hand with practice. Uncle Ho said: "Only knowing theory but not knowing how to practice is also half knowledge, "theory must be linked with reality".

In addition to studying and cultivating knowledge, President Ho Chi Minh also advised the young generation to constantly practice and cultivate qualities, ethics, and lifestyle. He emphasized: "Having talent but not virtue is a useless person". "Virtue", as Uncle Ho said here, is morality, human ethics, which in our time, Uncle Ho required practice to have revolutionary ethics.

Uncle Ho explained revolutionary ethics very simply and specifically: “Revolutionary ethics are not lofty or strange things, but for each person, regardless of position, regardless of what they do, they must not be afraid of difficulties or hardships, and must wholeheartedly serve the common interests of the class and the people, all with the aim of building socialism.” Uncle Ho considered “ethics to be the root of a revolutionary. To fulfill their responsibilities, our youth must promote the spirit of collective mastery, eliminate individualism, not show off formalities, and not be arrogant or complacent.”

President Ho Chi Minh always reserved the deepest and most profound love for the young generations of Vietnam. He affirmed: The youth are the future masters of the country… Therefore, caring for, nurturing and educating the young generation is always an important and urgent task for the whole society, “to build socialism, we must have socialist people, that is, we must have people with socialist ethics”.

More than half a century has passed, but the teachings of President Ho Chi Minh for Vietnamese students still remain as valuable as ever. These teachings are feelings, thoughts, teachings, and orientations for the generation that will master the future of the country, and they are also the guiding principles for the current generations of Vietnamese youth and students to always strive to study and practice morality according to the thoughts of the great President Ho Chi Minh.
