Nghe An is one of the provinces with the leading livestock movement in the country, currently having over 730,000 cows, 1.2 million pigs, 15 million poultry, and many concentrated farms. This is a favorable condition for the development of the biogas program and the movement to build biogas tanks has brought practical results, completely solving the problem of environmental pollution, creating a source of fertilizer for production, energy for daily life and lighting.

(Baonghean) -Nghe An is one of the provinces with the leading livestock movement in the country, currently having over 730,000 cows, 1.2 million pigs, 15 million poultry, and many concentrated farms. This is a favorable condition for the development of the biogas program and the movement to build biogas tanks has brought practical results, completely solving the problem of environmental pollution, creating a source of fertilizer for production, energy for daily life and lighting.

At the super lean pig farm of Mr. Nguyen Van Thanh in Ma Thanh commune, a large-scale investment of over 7 billion VND with over 600 super lean mother pigs, each month sells nearly 1,000 piglets. In 2011, the farm's environmental treatment system was not effective, so many people in Ma Thanh commune had their opinions. Mr. Thanh was determined to invest his own money to build a biogas tank with a capacity of over 5,000 m3, to solve the problem of environmental pollution. The biogas tank has met the need to warm pigs in winter, (reducing the cost of about 14 million VND for electric heating).

Ms. Phan Thi Thuong's family in Hamlet 3, Yen Thanh Town used to raise pigs, the main source of waste discharged into the ditch, causing environmental pollution. The residential area had opinions but Ms. Thuong still could not find a solution. In 2011, thanks to the district and town's agricultural extension officers propagating about the biogas project, her family built a biogas tank worth over 10 million VND, with a capacity of over 11 m3. Ms. Thuong said: Since the biogas tank was put into use, all waste from livestock farming has been collected for fuel and lighting. Thanks to biogas, the monthly fuel cost has been saved from 600,000 - 800,000 VND/month. Mr. Phan Doan Huu - Chairman of Yen Thanh Town People's Committee said: Up to now, Yen Thanh Town has nearly 40 biogas tanks (mainly pig farming households with a scale of 10-20 pigs), which has solved the problem of environmental pollution, there is no longer the problem of pig manure being discharged into residential areas like before.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hue, an agricultural extension officer from Yen Thanh, said: In many villages, people used to compost livestock manure to fertilize their fields. Many households did not use manure and dumped it on the road or in ditches, causing environmental pollution. The biogas tank construction program has been implemented to reduce this problem. Currently, Yen Thanh has nearly 900 biogas tanks. For many years, the construction has exceeded the target, such as in 2006 and 2007, over 120 tanks were built. Many key communes in livestock farming have implemented the project quite well, such as Nam Thanh, Lien Thanh, Xuan Thanh, Phu Thanh, and Dong Thanh. In 2012 alone, we are striving to achieve the target assigned by the province of 100 tanks.

It is known that the biogas program supported by the Dutch Government is divided into 2 phases. Phase I is from 2003-2006, the next phase is from 2007-2012. From 2003 to now, the whole province has built 7,791 standard biogas works, districts with potential to develop biogas technology such as Dien Chau with more than 1,300 biogas tanks, Quynh Luu 901 tanks, Nghi Loc 573 tanks, Nam Dan 602 tanks, Thanh Chuong 709 tanks...

This project is highly appreciated for its effectiveness and practical benefits brought by KSH technology; Step by step building clean livestock models, clean rural areas to reduce pollution caused by livestock waste; Creating a cheap renewable energy source and serving human life, increasing economic benefits for livestock households, through reducing costs of fuel needs for daily life. Creating a source of organic microbial fertilizers, reducing the use of chemical fertilizers to provide clean agricultural products. Reducing heavy, strenuous labor for women and children in housework.

Developing biogas digesters combined with livestock farming is a multi-utility solution that contributes to promoting sustainable livestock farming, reducing environmental pollution, limiting deforestation for fuel, creating a green - clean - beautiful environment. At the present time when gas prices are high, biogas is a solution to help people save on fuel costs.
