Lesson 12: Monuments associated with the anti-American movement to save the country
(Baonghean.vn) From the beginning of February 1965, the US imperialists sent planes to bombard the Nam Can border gate fiercely. From mid-March 1965, the sky over Nghe An was filled with the roar of US aircraft, which bombarded many places and regions. Together with the whole country to fight the US, the people of Nghe An with key forces being the Youth Volunteers (TNXP), frontline workers, and main force troops... stayed on the battlefield day and night, clearing the way for vehicles to pass. During those years of war and war, many heroic TNXP and soldiers sacrificed their lives. The places where they fell have now become historical relics - a powerful testament to the crimes of the US imperialists, and a place to educate the younger generation about revolutionary traditions.

Truong Bon relic
Truong Bon is located on strategic road 15A through My Son - Do Luong commune, a key traffic point that was fiercely bombarded, marking the enemy's crimes and the glorious victory of our army and people in the resistance war against America.
Truong Bon mountain road is 5km long, starting point is Cua Truong and the end point is Ky Lon slope. From Cua Truong, the road gradually rises, cuts through a hill, passes the top of the slope to meet the foot of U Bo mountain - where a memorable historical event was witnessed: A small, brave and resourceful old farmer over 60 years old captured an American pilot equipped with modern weapons with his bare hands. Continuing the journey on the road nestled in the lush green pine forest with names that have gone down in history such as Phong Khong hill, Cot Co mountain, Cay Thong hill - where 13 TNXP soldiers heroically sacrificed. Standing here looking to the North is the Dieu Set mountain range with 12 valleys, which was the weapons transit depot of Military Region 4 during the war against the US. The steep rocky mountain and Khe May dam - where TNXP soldiers often bathed after hours of hard work. Continue about 500m to Ky Lon slope, a hilltop located on a high mountain range standing like a wall in the front
Truong Bon is also the place where comrade Le Duan - First Secretary of the Party Central Committee, comrade Phan Trong Tue - Minister of Transport, Major General Dong Sy Nguyen and many high-ranking officials of the Party, State and Army visited, inspected, encouraged the fighting spirit and combat service of soldiers, youth volunteers and people of My Son and Nhan Son communes during the years when American planes were fiercely bombing. Many heroic sacrifices contributed to the legend of Truong Bon: Typical is the sacrifice of 13 youth volunteers of Company 317 - N65 - Youth Volunteers General Team to fight against the US to save the country...
To express gratitude and commemorate the great contributions of the heroic martyrs who did not hesitate to sacrifice their blood and bones, dedicating their youth to the Fatherland, in 2008, the Party and State decided to confer the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces on the collective of cadres and soldiers of Company 317, Team 65 of the Youth Volunteer Force against the US to save the country in Nghe An province. Every year, on holidays and Tet, cadres, party members and people come here to offer incense and flowers to show their respect, gratitude and report their achievements to the Youth Volunteers.
The country entered the era of independence and unification. In 1994, Nghe An province inaugurated the "Tombstone House", gathering the remains of martyrs here for care and commemoration. In order to provide timely support to the Southern battlefield to fight the enemy, after receiving the Youth Volunteers to support the Transport sector of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Labor Youth Union, on April 27, 1965, the Ministry of Transport established Unit C271, Team 27, "three ready" consisting of 150 comrades, transferred to the General Department of Railways to meet the needs of protecting the vital railway line and producing stone materials to promptly meet the traffic assurance work in the Thanh Hoa - Vinh area, focusing on strengthening the Hoang Mai front in Quynh Luu. Unit C271 was divided into many teams, each team was responsible for a different task, of which Team 4 had 36 comrades (14 men, 22 women) with the task of quarrying stone to build the road to Hoang Mai station and promptly fix problems on the railway when American bombs were dropped.
On April 28, 1966, at around 9 a.m., while the team was transporting the last blocks of stone to complete the remaining railway, suddenly an American plane dropped a bomb. When most of the brothers had entered the cave, the enemy plane swooped in and dropped a series of bombs that shook the whole area, followed by a series of rockets hitting the cave mouth. The cave door was completely destroyed, rocks fell everywhere, blocking the entrance. By the evening of that day, when the Americans stopped bombing, the Youth Volunteer Force units, soldiers, militia, and stone quarry workers gathered here, determined to search for any remaining comrades. It was not until the next morning that a part of the cave door was opened. Entering the cave, all the comrades were stunned to see a tragic scene: 33 bodies lying around, motionless, no one intact - the brothers and sisters had sacrificed. In 1966, after the Youth Volunteers sacrificed their lives, due to the country being at war, the martyrs' bodies were buried 300m away from Hoa Tien cave.
In 1996, to commemorate the merits of the Youth Volunteers, after more than 30 years, the Ministry of Transport and Vietnam Railways Corporation brought the martyrs' bodies back to be buried next to National Highway 1A (now the headquarters of Hoang Mai Stone Enterprise), named "Youth Volunteers' Cemetery". In 2001, following the direction of the Ministry of Transport and the General Department of Railways, the cemetery was moved to its current location, 300m from the Fire Rocket Cave and was built in a systematic manner. In 2003, the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs decided to recognize 33 Youth Volunteers of Group 4, Unit C271, Team 27 as martyrs and issued a certificate of national recognition, recognizing their merits in the struggle to protect the Fatherland. In 2006, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the death of the Youth Volunteers (April 28, 1966 - April 28, 2006) and the War Invalids and Martyrs' Day, July 27, Hoang Mai Stone Enterprise built, renovated and embellished the cemetery called "Railway Martyrs' Cemetery". In addition, the enterprise also rebuilt the Hoa Tien cave campus, engraved a memorial stele and built a memorial house for 33 martyrs, creating a complete and spacious relic complex...

Chimney of Vinh power plant. |
During the 10 years of fighting against the American war of destruction, Vinh Power Plant was one of the most fiercely attacked targets. The collective workers of Vinh Power Plant truly became the trust and pride of the electricians in Uncle Ho's homeland, worthy of the flag embroidered with 12 golden words: "Fight bravely, work creatively, win gloriously" given by the Nghe An Trade Union Federation. On June 4, 1965, enemy planes swooped in and bombed the factory, killing 8 comrades at their workplace.
Vinh Power Plant was recognized by the Party and State as a Heroic Unit (in 1967, at the Congress of Heroes and Emulation Fighters against the US to save the country). To praise those achievements, the Vietnam Documentary Film Studio
In October 1985, Vinh Power Plant stopped operating due to the increased power source in the North (Pha Lai Thermal Power Plant connected to the grid). After nearly 28 years of power generation, through many ups and downs and changes, Vinh Power Plant has completed its historical mission. It is a historical evidence of a production unit, whose name has entered the history of the nation and the Vietnamese electricity industry.
Aware of the value and historical significance of the factory, over the past time, Nghe An Electricity has always paid attention to protecting this relic site. In addition to keeping a part of the former factory site intact, Nghe An Electricity also preserved and restored a number of items on the old ground of the factory such as the chimney, the Soviet furnace production control center (old), the cave system in the heart of Dung Quyet mountain (D6 cave) and many artifacts kept in the Traditional room. Every June 4, Nghe An Electricity holds an incense offering ceremony to commemorate the martyrs who heroically sacrificed for the never-ending electricity in the heroic Soviet homeland.
